ECoR surpasses 100 MT freight unloading mark, first among railway zones

Bhubaneswar, Sep 16 (UNI) East Coast Railway (ECoR) has become the first railway zone in the country to cross the 100 million tonne (MT) mark in freight unloading in the current financial year, achieving the milestone 17 days ahead of the corresponding period last year, officials said on Wednesday.
ECoR recorded 9.8 per cent growth in freight release tonnage over the corresponding period of 2025-26, with improved wagon handling and faster release of freight rakes contributing to the performance.
The release of BOXN wagons increased by 7.3 per cent, while BOBRN wagon release rose 9.8 per cent during the period, indicating improved wagon turnaround and asset utilisation, officials said.
ECoR also registered 3.9 per cent growth in freight loading and 3.2 per cent growth in freight earnings compared with the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
The zone handles freight movement for major industries and businesses, including transportation of essential commodities and raw materials.
The improved unloading and wagon release performance is expected to facilitate faster movement of freight and improve efficiency across the railway network, officials said.UNI MK AAB
