New political party formed in Manipur

Imphal, Sep 16 (UNI) Manipur Indigenous Alliance (MIA), a new political party, was formally launched at Meitram on Wednesday.
Soraisam Surendra Singh, President, Manipur Indigenous Alliance (MIA) said the party was formed in response to the present situation in Manipur and the growing need for the Indigenous communities to come together to protect their land, heritage, identity, institutions, livelihoods and future.
The MIA seeks to provide a common democratic and constitutional political platform through which the Indigenous communities can work collectively for the protection and preservation of Manipur and the well-being of its people, he added.
The Manipur Indigenous Alliance (MIA) was formally established after conducting a “Founding Conference” . The Conference adopted the Constitution of the Manipur Indigenous Alliance, thereby establishing the Party as a democratic, constitutional and peaceful political organisation committed to representing the legitimate aspirations and interests of the people of Manipur.
The party has been founded with a clear commitment to protecting the rights, heritage, institutions, livelihoods, land and cultural identity of the Indigenous communities of Manipur, while working for democratic governance, social justice, economic opportunity, environmental protection and sustainable development, the president said.
The MIA seeks to strengthen participatory and decentralised governance and contribute to peace, harmony and national integration within the constitutional framework of India. It will pursue its political objectives exclusively through democratic, constitutional and peaceful means, he added.
The Founding Conference elected Soraisam Surendra Singh as President, with Gaidingmei Golmei as Vice-President. Khaidem Devchand Singh was elected General Secretary (Administration), Raingam Keishing General Secretary (Organisation), and Bk. Joyson General Secretary (Publicity & Media). Ronald Naorem was elected Treasurer and Abishai Kashung Secretary.
The Conference also adopted the Party Flag and approved the proposed Party symbol, subject to approval and allotment by the Election Commission of India in accordance with law.
A significant decision of the Founding Conference was to proceed with the registration of the Manipur Indigenous Alliance with the Election Commission of India under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The President and General Secretary (Administration) have been authorised to complete the necessary application, documentation and correspondence with the Commission.
The establishment of the MIA marks the beginning of a new political organisation committed to giving democratic expression to the legitimate aspirations of the people of Manipur, while upholding the Constitution of India, the rule of law, democracy and the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India, the President added.
