Odisha govt to host 2,500 women devotees for month-long Kartika Brata in Puri

Puri, Oct 8 (UNI) The Odisha government will host 2,500 women devotees, including married and widowed women, in Puri for the month-long Kartika Brata beginning October 26, the district administration said on Thursday.
Women aged between 50 and 70 years who are interested in observing the Brata can apply online from October 6 until the prescribed accommodation capacity is filled, according to an official release.
The applicants will have to undergo health screening and only those found medically fit will be allowed to participate. Women suffering from mental illness or serious ailments, as well as those considered too old to undertake the observance, will not be eligible, the release said.
The administration has arranged accommodation for the devotees at Brundabati Nivas, Mochisahi Kalyan Mandap and the Railway Tourist Complex.
The accommodation venue allotted to each selected devotee will be communicated after scrutiny of the applications. The administration made it clear that no offline application will be accepted.
The government will bear the expenses related to the religious observance of the devotees and provide them with one Mahaprasad meal and tiffin during their stay.
The devotees will also be taken to Sri Jagannath Temple once a day for darshan of Lord Jagannath and his siblings, the release said.
Medical teams will monitor the health of the devotees and conduct regular check-ups during their month-long stay in Puri, it added.
