Jharkhand: Betla National Park reopens, open safari launched

Medininagar, Oct 1 (UNI) Betla National Park in Jharkhand's Palamu district reopened for tourists on Thursday after the annual three-month closure, with an open safari launched in the park's Palamu Fort area.
Chatra MP Kalicharan Singh inaugurated the tourism season in the presence of officials of the Palamu Tiger Reserve. The park remains closed to tourism activities from July 1 to September 30 every year.
Palamu Tiger Reserve Deputy Director Prajeshkant Jena and other officials were present at the reopening ceremony.
The open safari has been introduced for the first time in the Palamu Fort area of Betla, where motorcycles have been prohibited, according to officials.
The authorities have also promoted traditional local food as part of the tourism experience, with visitors being offered dishes prepared from dhuska and mahua.
The reserve has made arrangements for tourists and imposed a complete ban on plastic inside the park, according to officials.
Betla National Park is about 25 km from the divisional headquarters at Medininagar, while Barwadih railway station is around 12 km away.
Officials said tourists from West Bengal form a major share of visitors to Betla, with their arrival generally increasing after Durga Puja.
