Odisha launches wildlife research grant, opens new ecotourism destinations

Bhubaneswar, Oct 3 (UNI) The Odisha Government on Saturday launched a dedicated grant for wildlife research, inaugurated new ecotourism destinations and announced fresh tourism infrastructure projects as part of efforts to strengthen wildlife conservation, scientific research and nature-based tourism in the state.
The Chief Minister’s Grant for Research on Odisha’s Wildlife (CM-GROW) was launched at the State-Level Wildlife Week Celebration-2026 at Lok Seva Bhawan in the presence of Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia.
Foundation stones were also laid virtually for several new ecotourism projects, including infrastructure and visitor facilities at Nandankanan Zoological Park.
Addressing the gathering, Singkhuntia said Odisha had recorded several wildlife conservation milestones over the past two years, driven by scientific approaches, modern technology, administrative measures and the efforts of forest personnel and local communities.
The government also released films on the biodiversity of the Eastern Ghats and the intertidal ecosystem of Bhitarkanika, along with publications on the state’s wildlife, biodiversity and conservation research.
Sanction orders and cheques were distributed to people whose houses were completely damaged by wildlife, reaffirming the state’s support for victims of human-wildlife conflict.

Odisha police destroy cannabis worth Rs 419 crore
