LG visits Maurya Enclave police station, stresses visible, responsive policing

New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Saturday visited Police Station Maurya Enclave to attend ‘Thana Diwas’, a citizen-oriented initiative aimed at providing a direct interface between residents and the police and ensuring time-bound resolution of their grievances.
During the visit, Sandhu interacted with local residents and reviewed policing issues, reiterating that the Delhi Police must focus on making policing visible, accessible and responsive while maintaining zero tolerance towards corruption.
The LG directed police officials to ensure that complainants receive copies of FIRs promptly and are kept regularly informed about the progress of their cases. He also called for strengthening beat policing and night patrolling in residential and vulnerable areas.
Sandhu stressed the need for particular attention to the safety and security of women, children and senior citizens, directing officials to ensure that policing remains accessible to vulnerable sections of society.
The LG also interacted with representatives of the local community and underlined the importance of cooperation between the police and residents in preventing crime and improving public safety.
He said active participation of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and market associations was essential for strengthening public trust and developing a safer Delhi.
‘Thana Diwas’ is intended to provide citizens with a platform to directly engage with police officials at the police-station level. Such interactions allow residents to raise grievances relating to law and order, investigation, patrolling, neighbourhood security and other policing concerns directly with the authorities.
The initiative also seeks to bridge the gap between the police and local communities by encouraging regular dialogue with residents, RWAs and market associations. Greater community participation can help police identify local security concerns, improve information flow and strengthen preventive policing.
The emphasis on beat policing and night patrolling is particularly aimed at increasing police visibility in neighbourhoods, while directions on FIR copies and case updates seek to improve transparency in the handling of complaints and investigations.
The focus on women, children and senior citizens reflects the need for policing measures that address the security concerns of vulnerable groups in public spaces and residential areas.UNI PWS AAB
