Sood orders magisterial probe into Seemapuri building collapse

New Delhi, Oct 30 (UNI) Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the tragic incident of a recent building collapse in New Seemapuri, that had claimed four lives.
The inquiry is going to be conducted by the District Magistrate, North-East Delhi.
Sharing his thoughts on the tragedy, Sood stated, "This is a deeply tragic incident that has cost precious lives. We have ordered a magisterial inquiry to investigate every single aspect of this collapse. No guilty person or lax official will be spared.”
Sood also emphasized that the immediate priority is to support the affected families, and the long-term goal is to enforce strict structural safety rules so that such an accident never happens again in the national capital.
Earlier this month a residential building, built on a small plot of 20-25 square yards collapsed in New Seemapuri, North East Delhi, and three adjacent structures also suffered major damage, and were declared unsafe by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), which led to their prompt evacuation.
Nearby residential structures in the area have also been observed as weak buildings constructed on tiny plot areas without proper structural columns or beams.
The inquiry will look into the exact facts, circumstances, and root causes of the building collapse. It will also find out and identify violations of laws, building rules, and safety stipulations by owners, tenants, or private individuals.
Lapses or omissions on the part of government departments, civic agencies, will also be looked into, to fix accountability of the officers concerned.
Following the inquiry, based on the findings, strict legal actions will be recommended against all erring individuals, agencies, or officials.
The fact findings shall also help examine the implementation of the National Disaster Management Act, 2005, and suggest permanent preventive measures to avoid such tragedies in the future.
