New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) The President of India has appointed new Governors for six states in a major gubernatorial reshuffle, involving the transfer of two incumbent Governors and fresh appointments in four states, according to a press communique issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan Secretariat on Monday night.
Under the latest changes, Om Prakash Mathur, the incumbent Governor of Sikkim, has been appointed Governor of Keralam, while Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who was serving as Governor of Keralam, has been transferred to Tamil Nadu.
Braj Mohan Ram has been appointed Governor of Odisha, while Dr Sudha Yadav will take over as Governor of Karnataka. Dr Dhal Singh Bisen has been appointed Governor of Uttarakhand, and Dushyant Gautam will succeed Mathur as Governor of Sikkim.
The appointments mark a significant reshuffle in the gubernatorial establishment, with two incumbent Governors being reassigned to new states and four individuals being appointed to gubernatorial positions. The changes cover Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Sikkim.
According to the communique, the appointments will take effect from the dates on which the respective appointees assume charge of their offices.
Governors are appointed by the President under Article 155 of the Constitution and hold office during the President’s pleasure under Article 156. As constitutional heads of their respective states, they exercise functions prescribed by the Constitution, including appointing the Chief Minister, summoning and proroguing the state legislature, and granting assent to Bills in accordance with constitutional provisions.
The latest reshuffle comes through a formal exercise of the President’s constitutional authority over gubernatorial appointments, bringing a revised arrangement of constitutional heads to six states. UNI SA CDS
