CJP’s Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka detained after protesting at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi, Oct 13 (UNI) Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde were detained by Delhi Police on Tuesday after they allegedly attempted to enter Jantar Mantar and hoist the national flag, party founder Abhijeet Dipke said.
In a post on X, Dipke said several members of the party had been detained by police during the early-morning incident.
“ You cannot de-notify the resistance,” Dipke said in a defiant post challenging the Centre’s order to denotify Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site and tagging PM Modi.
Reacting to the detention, Dipke questioned the police action, saying his team had gone to Jantar Mantar and hoisted the Tricolour.
“When did hoisting the Tricolour become a violation?” he asked, adding that those detained should not face charges for raising the national flag.
Dipke also urged the police to allow the detained members to consult their lawyers, alleging that he had earlier been kept in custody for 24 hours without being allowed to speak to legal counsel.
“The entire country will become Jantar Mantar. Jantar Mantar is not just a location; it is a spirit of resistance,” he said.
Describing the police action as an example of a “dictatorial mentality”, Dipke alleged that the government is attempting to restrict the use of public spaces for protest.
