Air India, Air India Express, Akasa Air hike fuel surcharges as ATF prices surge

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) Air India, Air India Express and Akasa Air have increased or introduced fuel surcharges on domestic and international flights from October 9, joining IndiGo in passing on part of the burden of rising aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices to passengers.
The latest revisions come three days after IndiGo announced its second fuel surcharge hike since March. With ATF accounting for around 40 per cent of an Indian airline’s operating costs, the sharp increase in jet fuel prices has added to cost pressures across the aviation industry.
The ongoing West Asia conflict, which began in late February following US and Israeli attacks on Iran, has disrupted global crude oil supplies and pushed energy prices higher. ATF prices in Delhi have climbed from around Rs 110 per litre to approximately Rs 137 per litre, including a 13 per cent increase in October alone.
