Sikh families still awaiting justice, what happened in 1984 was it not murder of democracy, asks Delhi CM

New Delhi, Nov 1 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, on Sunday, joined BJP’s padyatra in West Delhi’s Hari Nagar, demanding justice for victim families of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots while holding the Congress which was now swearing by the Constitution and talking of democracy, guilty of sikh genocide after the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The mass killing of sikhs was nothing short of murder of democracy, she asserted.
Senior BJP leaders, public representatives and thousands of members of the Sikh community took part in the rally expressing solidarity with the affected families, and called upon the grand old party to take responsibility for the tragedy and ensure justice for families who have been waiting for it for decades.
Gupta also said that thousands of Sikh families lost their loved ones during that horrific period, and even today, many mothers, sisters and families continue to live with the painful memories of the tragedy and wait for justice.
Targeting the Congress leadership, the CM Gupta said that neither the Congress nor the Gandhi family could escape responsibility for what happened to the Sikh community in 1984.
Gupta said the country had witnessed violations of democratic values at different points in its history, and recalling the Emergency of 1975 and the anti-Sikh violence of 1984, she said those who speak about democracy today must first answer for their past and the events that took place during those years.
The CM said that pain of those Sikh families who lost their loved ones in the 1984 violence had not faded even today, and for them the wait for justice remains.
She questioned why, even after so many years, the affected families had not received the justice and sensitivity they deserved.
Gupta also asked why the Congress's top leadership had failed to show adequate sensitivity in acknowledging their suffering and assuring them of justice.
The CM stated that the padyatra was an effort to give voice to the pain and demand for justice of thousands of families who lost their loved ones in 1984.
To all those who joined that padyatra, Gupta said that their solidarity conveyed a message of compassion for the affected families and commitment to justice.
