CCEA clears Rs 10,021-cr rail expansion push across four states, adding 540 km of new capacity

New Delhi, Sep 9 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved five multitracking projects of the Ministry of Railways involving an estimated investment of Rs 10,021 crore, in a major capacity expansion drive aimed at easing congestion, improving train operations and strengthening passenger and freight connectivity across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana.
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw, briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, said the projects would significantly enhance line capacity while improving the operational efficiency, reliability and flexibility of the Indian Railways. The additional tracks are expected to streamline train movement, decongest critical routes and facilitate faster and smoother transportation of both passengers and freight.
The five projects comprise the 77-km Arakkonam-Renigunta third and fourth lines, the 47-km Whitefield-Bangarapet third and fourth lines, the 147-km Hosur-Omalur doubling, the 159-km Salem-Karur-Dindigul doubling and the 110-km multitracking project between Secunderabad (Ghatkesar) and Kazipet.
