Cong Names Three Candidates for Maharashtra Legislative Council Biennial Polls

New Delhi, Oct 2 (UNI) The Congress on Friday announced its candidates for three seats in the upcoming biennial elections to the Maharashtra Legislative Council from the Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies, signalling its intent to strengthen its organisational and political presence among educated professionals and the teaching community in the state.
The candidates were approved by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and announced by Congress general secretary K C Venugopal in apress release.
The party has nominated Abhijit Govindrao Wanjarri from the Nagpur Division Graduates’ constituency, Jayant Dinkar Asagaonkar from the Pune Division Teachers’ constituency and Professor Aditi Rishikesh Pohare from the Amravati Teachers’ constituency.
These constituencies have traditionally drawn particular political attention as they involve defined electorates comprising graduates and members of the teaching profession.
The candidate selection assumes significance as the Congress seeks to consolidate and expand its organisational network in Maharashtra following the state’s recent electoral contests. The party remains part of the opposition political landscape in the state and has been seeking to strengthen its presence across different sections of the electorate.
