Cybercrime pendency falls sharply as Delhi Police steps up MRM, GRM disposal

New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) Delhi Police have sharply reduced pendency under the Money Restoration Module (MRM) and Grievance Redressal Mechanism (GRM) of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), bringing the pendency in both mechanisms down from around 90 per cent a month ago to 13.60 per cent and 16.30 per cent, respectively.
The improvement has been achieved through sustained monitoring, regular reviews, close supervision and coordination between the Delhi Police headquarters and the Indian Financial Services and Online Cybercrime Reporting (IFSO) Unit at Dwarka, officials said.
The police said it has so far sent requests for restoration of Rs 2.32 crore through the MRM portal, a substantial increase from Rs 3.26 lakh on March 2, 2026. The amount covered by restoration requests rose from Rs 10.80 lakh on April 1 to Rs 36 lakh on July 1 and Rs 232.13 lakh by September 18.
The MRM, an initiative of I4C, facilitates the restoration or release of money placed on hold in bank accounts to victims of cyber-enabled financial crimes reported through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), in accordance with the standard operating procedure prescribed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The GRM, meanwhile, provides a mechanism for addressing grievances of account holders whose bank accounts have been frozen, placed on hold or marked under lien during the tracing of
The IFSO Unit has recorded a 94.38 per cent disposal rate in MRM matters, clearing 6,245 of 6,617 cases. This has brought the remaining pendency to 5.62 per cent at the unit level.
The initiative is aimed at facilitating the recovery of funds placed on hold or under lien and ensuring their expeditious return to eligible complainants.
According to Delhi Police, the improvement followed continuous monitoring and periodic reviews, along with coordinated efforts by teams at Police Headquarters and the IFSO Unit at Dwarka.
A dedicated MRM and GRM State Nodal team at Police Headquarters is functioning under DCP IFSO-II Aynesh Roy. The team includes Inspector Gillu Ram Meena, ASI Neeraj Kumar Pandey, Head Constable Deepak, Woman Head Constable Jyotima, Constable Himanshu Tyagi and Woman Constable Reena Yadav.
The IFSO team at Dwarka, headed by DCP IFSO-I Gaurav Tyagi, includes ASI Tek Chand, Head Constable Manoj and Woman Constable Priyanka.
The pendency under both MRM and GRM is being monitored at the Police Headquarters and Ministry of Home Affairs levels and reviewed regularly to ensure timely disposal.
The Delhi Police said the exercise is part of its efforts to strengthen grievance redressal, facilitate timely restoration of funds to eligible cybercrime victims and improve the citizen-centric response to cyber-enabled financial fraud.
