CM Rekha Gupta honours Anganwadi workers, announces better facilities for centres

New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday felicitated Anganwadi workers and helpers under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, recognising their contribution to child care, maternal health and delivery of government welfare services at the grassroots.
The felicitation was organised as part of the ninth National Nutrition Month being observed by the Delhi government. Anganwadi and Palna workers associated with around 10,870 centres across the city will be recognised through appreciation programmes to be organised in every Assembly constituency.
Addressing the gathering, Gupta said Anganwadi workers have been serving children, pregnant women and families for years without seeking publicity or recognition.
“The concerns of Anganwadi sisters who have been serving society for years without seeking the limelight are now the responsibility of their Chief Minister sister,” she said, assuring them that the government would work towards improving their working conditions.
The Chief Minister said Anganwadi workers perform a wide range of responsibilities, including caring for children, reaching out to pregnant women, conducting surveys, assisting in vaccination drives, preparing data and ensuring that government services reach families in need.
She said their contribution often remains behind the scenes and does not receive the recognition it deserves. The government has therefore decided to honour Anganwadi workers across Delhi as part of the initiative.
Gupta said workers associated with 'Palna centres' would also be included in the recognition programme, with the constituency-level felicitation beginning on Thursday.
The Chief Minister also announced measures to improve infrastructure at Anganwadi centres, particularly those functioning from rented premises.
She said the government was working towards developing Anganwadi centres in better and permanent buildings over the next two years. As an initial step, the process of shifting centres to Municipal Corporation schools has already begun.
Such centres would provide children with access to basic facilities, including toilets, parks and adequate space for play, she said.
Gupta also assured Anganwadi workers that their honorarium would be increased, while steps would be taken to improve their overall working conditions.
She urged the workers to continue discharging their responsibilities with “love, respect and dedication”, saying their work was directly linked to the welfare of children and families.
The Chief Minister said the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ was not limited to taking government schemes and facilities to people but also involved engaging with grassroots workers and beneficiaries to understand their concerns and make necessary improvements.
She said the government would continue to listen to the issues faced by Anganwadi workers and work towards addressing them.
