PM Modi Thanks Meloni, Tobgay and Tedros for Birthday Wishes, Reaffirms India’s Strategic Partnerships

New Delhi, Sep 17 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday thanked Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus for their birthday greetings, using his responses to underline India’s continuing engagement with Italy, Bhutan and the global health community.
Modi, who turned 76 on Thursday, thanked Meloni for her “warm wishes” and said he looked forward to maintaining the close cooperation between the two countries.
“Thank you, Prime Minister Meloni, for your warm wishes. I look forward to continuing our close cooperation to further strengthen the India-Italy Special Strategic Partnership,” Modi said in a post on social media platform X.
India and Italy elevated their bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership in 2020 and subsequently adopted the India-Italy Strategic Partnership in 2023, with cooperation spanning trade and investment, defence and security, science and technology, clean energy, culture and people-to-people ties.
In a separate post addressed to Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Modi expressed his appreciation for the birthday greetings and said he “deeply cherish[ed]” the sentiments conveyed by the Bhutanese leader.
“Thank you, Prime Minister Tobgay, for your warm wishes and kind words. I deeply cherish your greetings and sentiments,” Modi said.
India and Bhutan maintain close bilateral ties, with cooperation covering development partnership, hydropower, connectivity, education, technology and people-to-people exchanges. The two countries have also continued to coordinate on newer areas of cooperation as India seeks to deepen its engagement with neighbouring countries.
Modi also thanked WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus for his birthday wishes, recalling their recent interaction at the BRICS Leaders’ Summit.
“Thank you for your warm birthday wishes and kind words, Dr. Tedros,” Modi said. “It was a pleasure to meet with you during the BRICS Leaders’ Summit and advance our shared commitment in various fields including global health.”
The reference came against the backdrop of India’s growing emphasis on international cooperation in healthcare and its role in global health initiatives. Modi and Tedros had met during the BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, where health cooperation formed part of the broader discussions on strengthening multilateral collaboration.
The messages were among a series of responses by Modi on Thursday as he acknowledged birthday greetings from leaders and public figures in India and abroad.
