Rahul Gandhi hits out at Centre over scrutiny of Ambedkar, Phule texts in Universities

New Delhi, Sep 30 (UNI) Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government of being opposed to social justice and equality after the union Education Ministry sought comments and enrolment details from central universities on courses featuring works by B R Ambedkar, Jyotirao Phule and other anti-caste thinkers.
The Department of Higher Education’s communication, sent to central universities on September 27 citing a communication from the Prime Minister’s Office, asked them to “furnish comments” on an X post that had described several prescribed readings as “poison” being fed into the minds of young people. The universities were also asked to provide enrolment details for the courses mentioned in the post. The communication was marked urgent.
Reacting to the development in a post on X, Gandhi said, “Modi ji is against social justice and equality. His entire system hates education because they do not want students to think or question.”
