ECI orders transfer of election-linked officers in five states ahead of 2027 Assembly polls

New Delhi, Oct 27 (UNI) The Election Commission of India has directed Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand to transfer officers directly connected with the conduct of elections who are posted in their home districts or have completed, or are due to complete, three years in a district during the past four years, ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
The Commission has set November 30, 2026, as the deadline for completing the exercise and submitting compliance reports.
In a letter dated October 27 to the chief secretaries and chief electoral officers of the five states, the Commission said the measures were aimed at ensuring impartiality among officials entrusted with election management and security arrangements, while preventing officers with prolonged tenures in particular districts from continuing in sensitive positions in violation of the prescribed criteria.
