PM Modi interacts with BRICS Parliamentarians as Delhi hosts two-day forum

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday interacted with parliamentarians from BRICS member countries at the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum 2026 here, exchanging views on a range of issues as India seeks to deepen parliamentary diplomacy and strengthen cooperation among emerging economies.
Sharing his experience on the social media platform X, Modi said, “Had a wonderful interaction with MPs from BRICS nations during the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum 2026 being held in Delhi. We exchanged perspectives on a wide range of issues.”
The interaction coincided with the opening of the two-day forum, which brings together legislators from BRICS member countries to discuss ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and promote people-centric development.
Being held under the theme “Strengthening Parliaments for People-Centric Development”, the forum will conclude on Tuesday.
BRICS, which brings together major emerging economies, provides a platform for cooperation on economic development, international affairs and a range of shared political and institutional priorities. Parliamentary engagement forms an important dimension of this partnership, enabling legislators to exchange experiences, discuss common challenges and explore ways to make democratic institutions more responsive to citizens’ needs.
India’s hosting of the forum highlights New Delhi’s emphasis on parliamentary diplomacy as a complement to government-to-government engagement.
Legislators can play an important role in shaping public policy, ensuring accountability and translating development priorities into outcomes that directly benefit citizens. The discussions at such forums also provide opportunities to compare approaches to challenges including economic inequality, technological transformation, sustainable development and the representation of developing countries in international decision-making.
As emerging economies seek a greater role in shaping the global order, closer engagement among their legislatures can contribute to a better understanding of shared concerns and development priorities.
Modi’s public message did not specify the individual issues discussed during his interaction with the visiting parliamentarians. However, the meeting underscored the institutional and people-to-people dimensions of India’s engagement with its BRICS partners, with the parliamentary forum offering a platform to strengthen dialogue and cooperation among participating countries.
