Rs 30-crore cyber fraud network busted in Delhi; 7 arrested

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) The North District Police have busted an alleged cyber fraud network involving more than Rs 30 crore in credit transactions and arrested seven persons for their alleged involvement in supplying bank accounts to cyber criminals, officials said today.
The racket came to light during an investigation into a complaint by a Delhi University student who was allegedly cheated of Rs 6,450 after responding to an Instagram advertisement for a kurti. Police said 27 cyber fraud complaints from different states have so far been linked to the network.
The complainant, a student of Ramjas College and a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, came across an advertisement posted by an Instagram account named “Kavya_kurti_hub”. She was redirected to a WhatsApp number to place an order worth Rs 799 and paid Rs 400 in advance through a QR code.
Subsequently, a caller allegedly posing in connection with parcel delivery asked her to provide a passcode. She was then induced to make successive payments of Rs 1,150, Rs 2,000, Rs 2,650 and Rs 650 on the pretext of generating the code and obtaining a refund. The parcel was never delivered, and the money was not returned.
Following the complaint lodged on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, an FIR was registered at Cyber Police Station, North District, on September 4.
A dedicated team conducted technical surveillance and analysed nearly 200 mobile numbers and IMEI details, banking transactions and digital records obtained from Flipkart, Zomato and Blue Dart. The cheated money was traced through a Pine Labs merchant account to a Canara Bank account of Kizentech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., based in Greater Noida, police said.
Coordinated raids in Greater Noida on October 16 led to the arrest of six accused, Aditya Mishra, Ayush Verma, Abhishek Pal, Himanshu Rana, Rahul Kumar and Gaurav Pandey. Further investigation led to the arrest of Udit Pratap Singh Bhadauriya in Kanpur on October 21.
According to police, the accused allegedly established firms and opened current bank accounts using documents in the names of fictitious entities and individuals. Approximately 25 bank accounts are suspected to have been used to route proceeds from cyber frauds.
During interrogation, Mishra allegedly disclosed that he, along with Bhadauriya, Verma and Pal, had set up firms and opened bank accounts that were subsequently handed over to Rana and Kumar for a monthly payment of Rs 25,000.
Rana and Kumar allegedly supplied the accounts, banking kits and linked SIM cards to Pandey, who police said operated a bank account supply network. Pandey allegedly provided the accounts to individuals identified as “Maxwell” and “Solitaire” on a commission basis. The two reportedly communicated through WhatsApp numbers bearing the US country code.
Police said Pandey, a 24-year-old MBA graduate, allegedly financed associates to arrange people willing to open current and savings accounts in return for monetary incentives. The accounts were then allegedly used to receive and transfer money generated through cyber fraud.
Raids at rented premises in Greater Noida also led to the discovery of three suspected firms, Kizentech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Executive Edge and Nexcore.
The police recovered 20 mobile phones, 45 SIM cards, 39 point-of-sale (POS) machines, 33 debit cards, 28 cheque books, 15 scanners, two laptops, five stamps, seven Aadhaar cards, five PAN cards and 21 bank account-related documents.
The investigation is continuing, and the seized electronic devices and banking records are being analysed to establish further links with other cyber fraud cases, police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, North District, Niharika Bhatt said the operation involved extensive technical analysis and coordinated action across locations in Uttar Pradesh and Greater Noida. UNI PWS SS
