Under-construction building collapses in Delhi’s Alipur, all workers safe

New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) An under-construction building collapsed in north Delhi’s Alipur area on Sunday morning, triggering a swift response from the Delhi Police, fire services and disaster management teams. No casualties were reported, and all workers at the site were accounted for and safe, officials said.
The incident took place around 11 am while lintel work was in progress at the construction site. A preliminary inquiry suggested that the supporting shuttering, locally referred to as ‘balli’, gave way, bringing down the under-construction portion of the building.
Several labourers were present at the site when the structure collapsed. Initial information indicated that five to six people might have been trapped beneath the debris, prompting an immediate emergency response. However, officials subsequently confirmed that no worker was trapped and all those present had been accounted for.
The Alipur police station received a call about the collapse at around 11 am, following which police teams were dispatched to the spot. Four ambulances, a fire tender and a Disaster Management vehicle were also mobilised as a precautionary measure.
Visuals from the site showed concrete slabs, reinforcement rods and construction material scattered amid the debris following the collapse. Police said further verification is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the collapse.
The incident comes days after a building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area claimed seven lives and raised fresh concerns over safety at construction and building sites in the capital.UNI PWS AAB
