Iran Embassy rebuts Israeli envoy, blames Israel and US for West Asia instability

New Delhi, Oct 8 (UNI) Iran's embassy in India on Thursday rejected remarks by Israeli ambassador to India Reuven Azar as "baseless and misleading", blaming Israeli policies and US support for them for the continuing insecurity and instability in West Asia.
In a statement posted on X, the Iranian embassy said, "the main source of insecurity and instability in the region is not the peoples of the region, but rather the aggressive, occupying and war-mongering policies of the Zionist regime and the comprehensive support provided by the United States to this regime."
The statement came in response to remarks by Azar, who had described armed groups and populations in Gaza and Lebanon as proxies of other countries.
The Israeli envoy said Israel's focus was on self-defence, deterrence and dismantling armed groups and regional proxies, specifically naming Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Rejecting that characterisation, the Iranian embassy said regional countries had long regarded Israel and the United States as potential guarantors of security but questioned that assessment in light of recent conflicts.
"Who attacked Qatar? Who targeted Beirut? Who turned Gaza into ruins?" the embassy asked.
It also pointed to Israel's continued occupation of parts of Syrian territory, including the Golan Heights, and said a government that spoke of peace and the Abraham Accords while attacking Arab countries "can never present itself as a defender of regional security."
The embassy accused Israel of killing "more than 70,000 innocent people in Gaza" and described the toll as "one of the greatest crimes in history."
"Security is not created through bombing, occupation, assassination and the killing of civilians," it said.
Rejecting the description of Gaza and Lebanon as proxies, the embassy said, "They are human beings who are fighting for their land, security, dignity, right to life and human rights."
Referring to military action against Iran by Israel and the United States over the past year, the embassy said Iran, "despite 47 years of sanctions, pressure and threats, stood firm against two regimes equipped with nuclear weapons."
"Today, like a phoenix that has emerged from the heart of the fire, Iran is fully prepared to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity," it said, adding that the strength of a "resurrected nation" could not be altered by "psychological operations" or propaganda.
The embassy cited what it described as Israel's "political and moral isolation" at the recent United Nations General Assembly session and growing protests around the world as evidence that global opinion was shifting.
It also alleged that Israel had provided practical support to armed groups in Syria and treated wounded ISIS-affiliated fighters in its hospitals. Those claiming to fight terrorism, it said, "cannot expect the people of the region to forget their historical memory." Israel has previously described its treatment of Syrians near its border as humanitarian assistance.
The statement, issued on the anniversary of the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack on Israel, also sought to place the conflict in a broader historical context.
"The history of Palestine did not begin on 7 October," the embassy said. "If 7 October is to be discussed, history must be viewed from 1948," it added, arguing that "no nation and no society can be deprived of its rights forever and be expected to remain without a response to history."
"The final victory belongs to those peoples who struggle for the liberation of their land, the defence of their rights and human dignity, and the achievement of freedom and justice," the embassy said.UNI AAB SKA
