PM Modi to meet Asian Games Medal winners, honour India’s sporting achievements on Thursday

New Delhi, Oct 14 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with members of the Indian contingent that participated in the 2026 Asian Games at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi at around 4.30 pm on Thursday, October 15, and address the gathering, according to a statement issued by his office on Wednesday.
India finished fourth in the overall medal standings at the continental sporting event held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, winning 85 medals, including 21 gold, 27 silver, and 37 bronze. The achievement marked India’s second consecutive finish among the top five nations at the Asian Games, reflecting the country’s growing presence across a wide range of sporting disciplines.
The Indian contingent registered several landmark achievements during the Games, including historic performances in recurve archery and gold medals for both the men’s and women’s hockey teams in the same edition. India also secured its maiden Asian Games medals in soft tennis and mixed martial arts (MMA), expanding its medal-winning footprint across disciplines.
Another notable milestone was India’s first-ever gold medal in the women’s trap event. In weightlifting, the country won an Asian Games silver medal after a gap of 28 years, while a silver in Greco-Roman wrestling ended a 64-year wait for an Indian finalist in the discipline.
The interaction is expected to bring together the athletes who represented India at the Games, along with their coaches and support staff, officials of the Indian Olympic Association, representatives of National Sports Federations and officials of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The Prime Minister’s address will provide an opportunity to recognise the contingent’s achievements and acknowledge the athletes’ contribution to India’s performance on the continental sporting stage.
