PM Modi calls for urgent UNSC reforms, 10-point roadmap at BRICS summit; says bloc is ‘not against anyone’

New Delhi, Sep 12 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday opened the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi with a strong call for reform of the global governance architecture, declaring that the reform of the United Nations Security Council “can no longer wait” and urging BRICS nations to prepare a concrete roadmap to strengthen multilateralism, innovation and resilience.
Addressing the session on “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism” at Bharat Mandapam, Modi placed “Humanity First” at the centre of India’s BRICS presidency and argued that institutions created for an earlier era could no longer adequately respond to today’s economic, geopolitical and security realities.
Welcoming the participating leaders and dignitaries, Modi said the BRICS grouping had emerged as an important voice on the world stage over the past two decades and described the 20th anniversary of its formation as a “historical milestone”.
