BJP accuses Congress of trying to ‘relaunch’ Rahul, tells it to stop ‘lying’

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) While Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other leaders staged a sit-in inside the Akashvani Bhavan premises after police blocked their march towards the Election Commission of India (ECI) headquarters, a battery of BJP leaders accused the Congress of “lying” and “spreading confusion over the ECI, Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and other democratic institutions” to “relaunch” him.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also asked the Congress, Gandhi and his colleagues to stop their “daily drama” over the Election Commission and their criticism of the Supreme Court. “This drama has been going on continuously since 2014. How long will this continue?” Rijiju said.
Rijiju said that, in a democracy, parties that serve the people receive their mandate. “If you cannot get the people’s mandate, you abuse the Election Commission. When the Supreme Court asks you to apologise, you then attack the Supreme Court as well,” he said.
The union minister also accused the Congress of attacking democratic institutions after failing to secure the people’s mandate and urged Gandhi to learn from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP workers serving society and the country selflessly. “You should also do this and stop this drama. If you continue to serve, people will trust you. Continuing with this drama will not work,” Rijiju said.
BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra accused the Congress of attempting to politically “relaunch” Gandhi by attacking democratic institutions.
Opposition parties, particularly the Congress, are trying to engineer a change of power and bring Gandhi to power by attacking democratic and constitutional institutions. “A sponsored attempt is being made by opposition parties, especially the Congress, as to how a change of power can be brought about in the country and Rahul Gandhi be made to sit in power just like that,” Patra claimed, addressing media.
He also rejected Gandhi’s claims regarding Form 6, saying that the Supreme Court had not issued any ruling supporting the Congress leader’s contention.
“Rahul Gandhi should explain that if the BJP wins elections because of Gyanesh Kumar, then how did the BJP win in 2014, 2019 and 2024 before his appointment?” Patra asked.
He also targeted the Congress over its criticism of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), saying the process of introducing EVMs in India began during the Rajiv Gandhi government.
BJP leaders also defended the verification and cleansing of electoral rolls, saying that identifying deceased, absent, shifted and duplicate voters was necessary to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
Electoral rolls contained 2.8 crore names of deceased persons and one crore duplicate entries, they said
“Purification of the electoral rolls is not an attack on democracy; it is a step towards strengthening democracy. If 4.5 crore suspicious beneficiaries could be identified in MGNREGA and 5.8 crore suspicious ration card beneficiaries could be identified, then what extraordinary knowledge does the Congress possess that makes it believe suspicious entries cannot exist in the voter list, questioned senior BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi.
