BJP holds nationwide protests over Kharge’s ‘insult’ to PM Modi’s father, demands apology

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) The Delhi BJP on Monday held a protest near the residence of Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, one of many similar demonstrations across the country demanding an apology for his alleged “insult” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late father at an event in Patna. Saffron cadres staged protests in several parts of the country against Kharge over his alleged disparaging remarks about the Prime Minister’s late father, demanding an apology from him and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
The BJP announced the nationwide protest against Kharge’s “insulting, indecent and offensive” ‘Modi ka baap bhi jayega’ remark in response to an audience member’s comment that “the Prime Minister will not go anywhere” at an event marking the birth anniversary of Bihar’s first chief minister, Shrikrishna Singh. The remark drew instant reactions from top BJP leaders, accusing him of using language “associated with thugs and hooligans”.
Senior party leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, called the language a violation of political decorum that crossed the line into personal abuse against the PM’s deceased family members. Shah said this was not the first time that the Congress party had used abusive language against the PM or his family. “At times, they have hurled insults at his revered mother, at times called him ‘merchant of death,’ and at times mocked his poverty by calling him ‘chaiwala’,” he wrote on X.

“Under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, the Congress party keeps crossing the limits of indecency every day. In the past 12 years, the repeated electoral defeats have bred such desperation and frustration in the Congress party that it no longer has any policy left, or any issue, only the politics of slander remains,” he alleged.
Speaking to media persons, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia, too, slammed Kharge for dragging the late parents of political opponents into public discourse, describing it as completely “unacceptable and reflective of cheap politics”.
He demanded an explanation and immediate accountability from the top Congress leadership, calling out Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi’s silence on the matter. Asserting that the country was closely watching the behaviour of the opposition, Bhatia said the people never forgive those who disrespect elders and deceased family members for electoral mileage.
The Congress has defended Kharge, saying his remarks came in response to heckling during the event. Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy, too, defended Kharge, stating that he was merely reacting in the same tone to an aggressive and provocative interruption from an audience member.
