PM Modi congratulates Lula on re-election, vows to deepen India-Brazil strategic ties

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday, congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election, expressing his desire to strengthen the India-Brazil strategic partnership, expand cooperation across multiple sectors and advance the shared priorities of the Global South.
In a message posted on the social media platform X, Modi referred to Lula as his “dear friend” and extended his “heartiest congratulations” on what he described as a remarkable electoral victory.
“I look forward to working closely with him to further deepen and expand the multifaceted India-Brazil Strategic Partnership,” Modi said, reaffirming New Delhi’s commitment to strengthening its engagement with Brasília.
“Together, we will continue to strengthen our cooperation across diverse sectors, advance the shared priorities of the Global South and work towards a more inclusive world," the Prime Minister added.
India and Brazil have built a broad-based strategic partnership spanning trade and investment, energy, agriculture, defence, science and technology, digital cooperation, healthcare and climate change. As major developing economies with significant influence in the Global South, both countries have also advocated a greater voice for developing nations in international institutions and closer coordination on global economic and political challenges.
Their membership of BRICS, the G20 and the United Nations provides important platforms for cooperation on global governance, sustainable development, reform of multilateral institutions and the concerns of emerging economies. Both countries have sought to strengthen South-South cooperation while promoting a more representative international order.
Modi’s message underlined India’s intention to build on its longstanding ties with Brazil under Lula’s leadership. Closer engagement between the two countries is expected to remain important to their efforts to expand economic and commercial relations, coordinate positions on international issues and advance common priorities concerning development and global governance.
