Why does Congress want duplicate names to remain on electoral roll, Smriti Irani questions

New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) Amid the raging war with the Congress on the issue, senior BJP leader Smriti Irani on Tuesday defended the Election Commission.
Responding to Congress’ demands for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and suspension of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), she wondered why opposition party wanted to retain duplicate names and those of the deceased persons on electoral rolls.
She also questioned if the Congress was raising similar concerns about the EC in states such as Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala and Karnataka, where the BJP is not in power,.asking it to introspect over its electoral defeats rather than target the poll panel for doing its work.
