Rubio arrives in Mumbai, to hold talks with Jaishankar

Mumbai, Oct 20 (UNI) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday for an official visit to India, during which he will hold talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on bilateral cooperation, including energy, trade, investment, defence and critical technologies.
Rubio is accompanied by his wife, Jeanette Rubio, and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, who welcomed the secretary and expressed hope for progress in bilateral ties.
“Great to be back in Mumbai, this time with my friend US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Looking forward to a productive visit and to advancing U.S.-India ties,” Gor posted on X.
The talks between Rubio and Jaishankar are expected to cover key areas of cooperation as well as regional and global developments, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on October 16 that the visit would provide an opportunity for both countries to review their relations and explore ways to strengthen the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
“The two sides will also exchange views on regional and global developments,” Jaiswal said, adding that the visit would help sustain high-level engagement and advance shared priorities.
During his Mumbai engagements, Rubio is scheduled to lay a wreath at the 26/11 memorial at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel and attend the “Freedom 250” reception. He is also expected to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Rubio will then travel to Jamnagar in Gujarat for discussions that will include enhanced energy cooperation, the US State Department said.
During the visit, he is also expected to meet senior Indian government officials and business leaders to discuss regional and global developments, promote commercial investment and expand economic cooperation, according to the State Department.
