Safety & security of students, especially girls, is non-negotiable: LG Sandhu

New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Sandhu on Monday emphasized that the safety and security of students in the national capital was simply "non-negotiable".
Sandhu held a meeting with the Vice Chancellors, and Directors of Delhi Government's Universities, alongside senior officials of the Delhi Police, Public Works Department, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Transport Department, to review security at university campuses, and the safety of students, particularly girl students.
LG Sandhu directed officials to strengthen multi-agency coordination covering enhanced police patrolling, elimination of dark spots, CCTV integration along approach roads, improved last-mile transport connectivity and comprehensive safety audits of student accommodations.
He told officials that it was necessary to ensure that every young person, especially the daughters are able to pursue education in the national capital with utmost confidence, dignity and a sense of security.
Sandhu asserted that a safe, vibrant and dignified environment for the youth is foundational to the vision of a Viksit Dilli.
Meanwhile, top police officials, LG himself, and other officers concerned have been reviewing security and safety arrangements across campuses, major parks and other places, to ensure that students, and the public, especially women and girls, feel safe, and crime can be prevented.
Sandhu lately has been visiting different places across the city, including institutions, etc and directly interacting with the public to take note of the issues they face, as well as making them aware of the initiatives taken up by the administration.
Police have also been holding weekly Jan Sunwais across its districts every week, enabling citizens to easily reach out to the senior officers, and put their issues and problems forward without hesitation.
Due to the initiative, the police have been able to coordinate better with the public, and also addressed their concerns better, and in a swift manner.
