IIT BHU and University of Michigan sign MoU on Electric Vehicle Research

Varanasi, Sep 18 (UNI) The Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi (IIT BHU) and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbour have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote research and innovation in the field of electric vehicles (EVs) and sustainable transportation.
The two institutions have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for joint research, innovation, and academic collaboration.
The institute stated on Friday that the MoU was signed on September 8, at the Electric Vehicle Centre (EVC) at the University of Michigan by IIT BHU Director Professor Amit Patra and University of Michigan Associate Dean for Research Professor Todd Allen.
A high-level delegation led by IIT BHU Director Professor Amit Patra visited the University of Michigan's Electric Vehicle Centre.
During the meeting, the possibilities of joint research, technological innovation, and academic collaboration in the field of electric vehicles and sustainable transportation were discussed in detail.
Prof. Patra provided information about the research work being conducted by IIT BHU in the field of e-mobility.
He stated that bringing together the expertise of both institutions could foster new research and innovation in the field of electric vehicle systems.
This would also provide new international opportunities for students and researchers from both institutions.
Prof Rajeev Kumar Singh, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Coordinator of the Center for Transportational E-Mobility (CTEM), IIT BHU, provided information about two approved projects between the two institutions.
He also discussed the possibility of collaboration with the University of Michigan on other ongoing projects at the institute.
Dr. Debdeep Bhandari, Dr. Abir Ghosh, Dr. Udita Ghosh, and Dr. Pradyut Dhar from IIT BHU participated in the meeting online.
The IIT BHU delegation included Director Prof. Amit Patra, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering Prof. Rajeev Kumar Singh, Dean (Resources and Alumni), Prof. Hiralal Pramanik, Distinguished Alumnus Vishnu Narayanan, and Senior Alumnus Dr. Shri Mirle.
Representing the University of Michigan were Prof. Alan Taub, Director of the Electric Vehicle Center, Dr. Christoph Mangin, Managing Director of the EVC, Prof. Todd Allen, Associate Dean for Research, College of Engineering, Prof. Jason Siegel, Prof. Heath Hoffman, and Prof. Amit Mishra.
During the meeting, the two institutions discussed two approved projects as well as future projects.
Collaboration in the field of advanced materials was also discussed. Both institutions agreed to establish a Materials Research Team to advance joint research.
This team will work to develop a detailed white paper and chart a long-term research direction.
Other potential areas of collaboration with the University of Michigan were also discussed. Emphasis was placed on further strengthening alumni and institutional connections between the two institutions.
This MoU between IIT BHU and the University of Michigan is a significant step toward expanding international research collaboration in the field of electric vehicles and sustainable transportation.
It is expected to enhance opportunities for joint research, academic exchange of students and faculty, and development of new technologies.
