Haryana petrol dealers threaten to stop UPI payments over Rs 5 MDR, seek exemption

Panchkula, Sep 18 (UNI) Petrol pump dealers in Haryana have threatened to stop accepting digital payments and switch to cash if fuel retailers are not exempted from the new Rs 5 Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on UPI merchant transactions above Rs 2,000, the state dealers' association said.
The All Haryana Petroleum Dealers Welfare Association (AHPDA) has opposed the new payment framework and, on September 17, sent a formal representation to the union Finance Ministry seeking an exemption for petrol pumps.
Hisar association president Rajkumar Salemgarh said the new charge has not yet come into force, but dealers have decided to raise the issue with the Centre before it is implemented.
“If petrol pumps are not exempted from the MDR, we may have to discontinue cashless payment facilities across Haryana and accept payment for fuel in cash,” Salemgarh said.
