Haryana’s Sports policy role model for other States, says Minister Choudhry

Rohtak, Oct 11 (UNI) Haryana’s sports policy is delivering results at the international level, with the state’s athletes winning 22 of India’s 85 medals, including 14 gold, at the recently concluded Asian Games, Women and Child Development Minister Shruti Choudhry said today.
Addressing the media after the closing ceremony of the 20th National Floorball Championship-2026 at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, Ms Choudhry said Haryana’s progressive sports policy, coupled with athletes’ dedication and discipline, had helped players establish themselves on the international stage.
She said the state’s policy had emerged as a model for other states, citing cash rewards for Olympic and Asian Games medal winners, government job opportunities under the *Medal Lao, Pad Pao* scheme and the development of modern sports infrastructure at the grassroots level as key measures encouraging athletes.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the government was continuing to strengthen the sports ecosystem and create opportunities for talented players, she said.
Choudhry said the three-day National Floorball Championship witnessed enthusiastic participation by teams from across the country. Such competitions encourage sporting spirit among young people and provide them with a platform to showcase their talent and progress to higher levels of competition, she added.
Earlier, the minister interacted with players from the Haryana and Madhya Pradesh teams on the court and released the championship souvenir. She also flagged off an awareness bus as part of the anti-drug campaign.
During the closing ceremony, Ms Choudhry felicitated Asian Games medallist shooter Suruchi Phogat, boxer Parveen Hooda and international floorball player Manisha for their achievements in sports.
Haryana Floorball Association president Gajendra Phogat welcomed the minister and highlighted the state government’s initiatives to improve sports facilities, nurture talent and encourage greater participation among young people. He said promoting sports such as floorball would help strengthen the sporting culture in Haryana and enable more athletes to compete at national and international levels.
MDU Director of Sports Kultaj Singh also welcomed the minister and highlighted the contribution of former chief minister Chaudhary Bansi Lal to the establishment of the university.
Haryana Scheduled Castes Commission vice-chairperson Renu Dabla, BJP youth leader Deepak Niwas Hooda, National Floorball Association vice-president Dipender Arya, secretary Surjit Nain, joint secretary Sunil Phogat, treasurer Sushil Shastri, Jat Institution vice-president Naresh Kala and Manmohan Goyal were among those present.
