Major recruitment events every week; govt jobs for one lakh youths in six months: CM Yogi announces

Lucknow, Sept 2 (UNI) Launching a scathing attack on the opposition, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that those who failed to deliver will always criticise.
"The state and the country have witnessed the incompetence and idleness of those who, through their inaction and inability, reduced Uttar Pradesh to a 'Bimaru' (ailing) state. Such individuals have no moral right today to comment on the UP Police or the state's administrative system," he said.
The Chief Minister remarked that the opposition can keep counting, while the government will continue to provide appointments. Appointment letters were handed over to 818 youths on Saturday, 912 are receiving them on Sunday, and another distribution ceremony is scheduled for September 22. Over the next six months, the state will host a major recruitment event every week, aiming to provide government jobs to one lakh youths.
CM Yogi was addressing the appointment letter distribution ceremony for the 'Clerical Cadre Direct Recruitment-2023' of the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board at Lok Bhawan here on Sunday.
He handed over appointment letters to 912 candidates selected for the posts of Police Sub-Inspector (Confidential), Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (Clerk), and Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (Accounts). He congratulated all the newly selected candidates on becoming part of the UP Police.
Chief Minister Yogi stated that when a deserving candidate is selected through a fair and transparent examination, it is not merely an achievement for their family but also a symbol of the common man's trust in the administration. Prior to 2017, the anomalies in the recruitment process had bred despair and frustration among the youth. Nepotism had gripped the entire system so tightly that transparency and integrity were unimaginable.
He noted that the moment a recruitment advertisement was released, youths would feel that selection was impossible without recommendations or financial dealings. Questions were raised regarding the integrity of the examination and selection processes, and incidents of paper leaks frequently came to light.
Chief Minister Yogi alleged that there were recruitments in the UP Police where one person took the exam while another received the appointment letter. Appointment letters were distributed to candidates who had not even applied, while deserving candidates were left out.
CM Yogi stated that after the government assumed office in 2017, reforms were implemented to ensure complete transparency in the recruitment process. Changes were made to the recruitment procedures involving the Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, the Public Service Commission, the Subordinate Services Selection Commission, and the education sector. Interviews were abolished for Group C and D recruitments to ensure that deserving candidates would not face discrimination at any stage.
He said that now, from the advertisement stage to the examination, issuance of appointment letters, training, and district posting, no candidate would need to seek recommendations. There would be no discrimination against anyone; every individual would receive opportunities based on their merit, capability, and performance.
Chief Minister Yogi noted that as a result of the changes made to the recruitment process since 2017, over 9.5 lakh youths have gained the opportunity to serve in the Uttar Pradesh government. Several recruitment processes are currently underway.
He stated that UP has emerged from the status of a 'Bimaru' (backward/ailing) state and now ranks among the few states in the country that can be classified as revenue-surplus. Over the past nine to nine-and-a-half years, the state's economy and per capita income have tripled. The youth and citizens of UP no longer face an identity crisis; new investments are flowing in, and new opportunities are becoming available.
Chief Minister Yogi remarked that prior to 2017, people from Uttar Pradesh often had to hide their identity when outside the state. There was a lack of opportunities within UP. Riots occurred frequently, and curfews remained in force for months. Areas such as Bareilly, Aligarh, Meerut, and Muzaffarnagar frequently witnessed riot-like situations.
He added that at that time, the mafia posed a challenge not only to ordinary citizens and traders but also to the administration, the police, and the judiciary. Whenever a mafia convoy passed, the vehicles of other people would be forced to stop. Today, no mafia figure would dare to create a ruckus while brandishing weapons from an open jeep.
CM Yogi stated that the state, once plagued by unrest, has been transformed into a state defined by celebration. Uttar Pradesh has established an image as a curfew-free and mafia-free state.
Events ranging from the Kumbh and Maha Kumbh to festivals, VVIP visits, and local gatherings are being conducted safely and successfully. The UP Police has played a significant role in this transformation.
CM noted that prior to 2017, families in several districts and towns of central and western Uttar Pradesh who had the means would send their daughters to stay with relatives or in hostels outside the state for their education. Those without such resources were compelled to keep their daughters at home.
He remarked that today, no one dares to harass a girl on the street; anyone attempting to do so knows exactly what the consequences will be.
The UP Police has contributed significantly to the changed perception of the state. Today, the 'UP Police model' is discussed across the country, and people ask why riots and disturbances no longer occur in Uttar Pradesh.
Chief Minister Yogi mentioned that in 2017, more than half of the positions in the UP Police force were vacant. The state required a police force of four lakh personnel, yet there were fewer than two lakh; recruitment processes were stalled in the courts. The government reformed the recruitment system and made the process transparent.
