UP govt hike honorarium of panchayat assistants by Rs 3000 per month

Lucknow, Sep 16 (UNI) In a major sop before the assembly elections, Uttar Pradesh Panchayati Raj Minister and President of Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party ( SBSP) Om Prakash Rajbhar has announced that the honorarium of Panchayat secretaries will be increased from Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000.

This money will now be directly deposited into the accounts of Panchayat assistants.
Rajbhar was addressing the media here on Wednesday. He said that he had discussed this with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath this morning and got the approval.
He stated that the demands of the Panchayat Assistants sitting on strike are legitimate. He announced that the Panchayat Head and Secretary will no longer be able to remove Panchayat Assistants. They will only be removed after an investigation by a committee headed by the District Magistrate.

Responding to Cabinet Minister Dr Sanjay Nishad's statement, Rajbhar said that he would help the NDA win as many seats as he loses. He added that elections are coming, so every leader is trying their best.

Sanjay Nishad had recently claimed that the BJP won many seats only due to the Nishad Party.

Elaborating about the agitation by the Panchayat Assistants, Rajbhar said, "Our Panchayat Assistants have been on strike since August 24. When I came to Lucknow on Monday, I spoke with some colleagues. Their demands are legitimate. I spoke with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath this morning. After the conversation, it was announced that all our Panchayat Assistants will receive Rs 9,000 per month."

He said, " earlier government was ready to give Rs 8000 per month, but after my intervention and approval from the CM, it has been hiked to Rs 9000 per month."

The total number of Panchayat Assistants is over 57,000 in the state, and they were receiving Rs 6000 per month as honorarium.
Rajbhar also announced that all cases against those who were registered during the Panchayat Assistants' protest would be withdrawn, and those who were removed would be reinstated. He also said that the government was also considering providing them cashless health facilities like other employees.

In 2022, the state government appointed Panchayat Assistants to streamline administrative work in gram panchayats. They were officially designated as Panchayat Assistants/Accountants-cum-Data Entry Operators. This initiative by the state was aimed at decentralising service delivery and making administrative work accessible to the rural population.
