UP: Congress hold massive protest demanding resignation of CEC

Lucknow, Sep 25 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Congress workers staged a massive protest in Lucknow today demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Workers planning to surround the Assembly clashed with police, resulting in intense pushing and shoving near the state Congress headquarters. When police tried to remove them, the workers squatted down on the road amid heavy rains. Police used mild lathicharge on the protesting activists, in which a few received minor injuries.
The protest lasted for about two and half hours. Congress workers had announced a protest today.

More than 500 workers gathered at the Congress office at 12 noon. They then began marching toward the Assembly and the Chief Minister's residence, shouting slogans. Women workers held posters reading "Vote thieves, leave the throne". They had only reached 200 metres when the police stopped them and erected barricades. Even then, Congress workers remained adamant on moving forward. Seeing the commotion increasing, forces from 12 police stations and four companies of the PAC were called in.
Meanwhile, Congress workers, including State Congress President Ajay Rai and MLA Aradhana Mishra, climbed over the barricades. They were then dragged into vans and buses and taken to Eco Garden.
