Haryana invites applications for State-level women’s awards, top honour carries Rs 5 lakh cash prize

Chandigarh, Oct 15 (UNI) The Haryana government will honour women who have made outstanding contributions in fields ranging from social service and women’s empowerment to administration, entrepreneurship, sports and grassroots governance, with cash awards of up to Rs 5 lakh under the State-Level Women’s Awards for 2026-27.
Women and Child Development Minister Shruti Choudhry on Thursday announced that applications from eligible women are invited through an online portal until November 5, 2026.
“The state government is committed to the welfare and empowerment of women. These awards are intended to recognise exceptional achievements, encourage excellence and inspire more women to contribute to society,” Choudhry said.
The highest honour, the Sushma Swaraj Award, carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and will recognise women who have made significant contributions in various fields at the national and international levels.
The Indira Gandhi Mahila Shakti Award, carrying Rs 1.50 lakh, will be presented to women who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to women's welfare, child development, protection and rehabilitation.
The Kalpana Chawla Shaurya Award and the Behan Shanno Devi Panchayati Raj Award will each carry a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
While the Kalpana Chawla Shaurya Award will recognise exceptional courage and exemplary service, the Behan Shanno Devi Award will honour women representatives of Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies who have made notable contributions to women's empowerment.
The government will also confer a Lifetime Achievement Award of Rs 51,000 on women aged 60 years and above who have demonstrated sustained excellence and made significant contributions throughout their careers.
Under the Outstanding Achievement Award category, women from diverse professional and social backgrounds will receive Rs 21,000 each.
Eligible categories include auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs), nurses, multipurpose health workers, sportspersons, government employees, members of literate women's groups, social workers, Anganwadi workers and women entrepreneurs.
All selected awardees will receive a cash prize along with a certificate of appreciation.
Choudhry said the initiative was aimed at ensuring that women's contributions, particularly those making a difference at the community and grassroots levels, receive wider recognition.
“Women have achieved remarkable success across different sectors. Recognising their contributions is essential not only to honour their achievements but also to motivate others to move forward,” she said.
The minister urged eligible women to submit their applications before the November 5 deadline, stressing that applications would be accepted exclusively through the online system.
Detailed eligibility criteria, award guidelines and application procedures are available on the Women and Child Development Department's official portal.
She said the awards reflected the government's broader commitment to strengthening women's participation, leadership and economic and social empowerment across Haryana.UNI KK/NB AAB
