In Kashmir, 20 JKAP holds awareness talks, debate on drug abuse

Srinagar, Oct 7 (UNI) As part of its community outreach programme, 20 Battalion of Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police (JKAP) India Reserve (IR) organised awareness talks on the administrative reforms and nation-building contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel besides holding a debate competition on the growing menace of drug abuse.
The talks held on Tuesday focused on Patel’s role in strengthening India’s administrative framework and promoting efficient governance, discipline, unity and national integrity, a statement issued after the event said.
Students and teachers from various schools participated in the debate, which focused on the causes and consequences of substance abuse and ways to prevent it. The participants stressed the need for greater awareness, education, family support and constructive engagement of youth to tackle the growing social challenge.
Cash prizes and general knowledge books were distributed among the participants to recognise their efforts and encourage learning and healthy competition.
Addressing the students, CO of 20 JKAP IR Surjeet Kumar, urged them to remain focused on their studies and shun drugs and other harmful influences.
He called upon the students to become “ambassadors of the drug-free mission” by spreading awareness among their peers, families and communities.
Kumar said the fight against drug abuse required collective efforts by students, teachers, parents, police and the wider community.
He also urged the students to uphold the values of unity, brotherhood, discipline, patriotism and responsible citizenship and contribute towards building a stronger and safer India.
“Study hard, stay away from drugs, stand united and become responsible citizens and proud Indians,” he said.
