DAV Panchkula students showcase robotics, coding and life skills at Kaushal Deepotsav 2026

Panchkula, Oct 31 (UNI) From designing robotic arms and developing computer games to growing vegetables and creating handmade products, students of DAV Public School, Sector 8, Panchkula, demonstrated how classroom learning can be translated into practical skills at 'Kaushal Deepotsav 2026', a skill-based exhibition and Diwali carnival organised on Saturday.
The event, inspired by the CBSE's 'Kaushal Bodh' initiative, brought science, technology, art, environmental education and entrepreneurship under one roof, giving students an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge, develop problem-solving abilities and demonstrate creativity beyond conventional classroom activities.
A major attraction was the science exhibition, where students presented working models of robotic arms, catapults and propeller boats constructed using ice-cream sticks. The projects demonstrated basic principles of mechanics, movement and the practical application of scientific concepts through experimentation.
The Information Technology Department showcased student-developed games and animations using Scratch, a visual programming platform designed to introduce learners to coding. QR-code-based applications and other digital activities provided an insight into students' growing familiarity with technology, logical thinking and digital problem-solving.
Environmental awareness and sustainable living formed another important component of the exhibition. Under the theme 'Grow What You Eat', the Biology Department, in collaboration with the school's gardening staff, developed a kitchen garden display highlighting vegetable cultivation, organic gardening, nutrition and the importance of growing food sustainably.
Students demonstrated their understanding of plants, gardening techniques and environmentally responsible practices through the display of different plants, gardening equipment and related information.
The exhibition also provided a platform for students interested in art, design and creative entrepreneurship. Handmade earthen lamps, scented candles, rangoli designs, decorative torans and clay products were displayed, demonstrating how artistic skills could be developed into practical and potentially income-generating activities.
Face painting and live sketching activities further encouraged artistic expression, while fireless cooking sessions introduced students to food preparation, nutritional awareness, hygiene, teamwork and everyday life skills.
The accompanying Diwali carnival featured stalls selling traditional sweets, snacks, decorative items, gifts, stationery, clothing and other products. Games, rides and a lucky draw added to the festivities.
The combination of exhibitions and carnival activities was intended to encourage students to explore skills beyond academic subjects, including creativity, communication, teamwork, self-reliance and an understanding of practical work.
Students also participated in musical performances, instrumental presentations and dance programmes, showcasing their confidence, stage presence and performing arts skills.
Former senior bureaucrat Keshni Anand Arora attended the event as chief guest, accompanied by school manager Jaskiran Harika and regional assistant Jaya Bhardwaj. Principals from various Tricity schools, parents, alumni and retired teachers also attended.
The guests visited exhibition stalls, interacted with students and appreciated their scientific projects, digital applications and creative work.
School Principal Ritu Dilbagi said the event reflected the institution's emphasis on skill-based learning and preparing students for challenges beyond the classroom.
"Education becomes meaningful when students learn to apply their knowledge in real-life situations. Every model, stall and presentation reflects their creativity, confidence and potential," she said.
Dilbagi said the objective of education is not merely to achieve academic excellence but also to nurture independent, creative, socially responsible and capable individuals equipped with practical knowledge.
She said activities involving scientific experimentation, digital innovation, environmental responsibility and entrepreneurship helped students recognise their abilities and develop confidence in applying what they had learned.
The principal thanked the chief guest, school management, visiting principals, parents, alumni and retired teachers for their participation and credited students, teachers, departmental coordinators and supporting staff for organising the event.
The exhibition highlighted the school's effort to integrate skill education with academic learning by providing students opportunities to experiment, create, collaborate and demonstrate knowledge through practical activities.
