Training of master trainers begins for second phase of Census-2027 in UP

By Manoj Bhadra
Lucknow, Sep17 (UNI) Training of Master Trainers for the second phase of Census-2027 has commenced in Uttar Pradesh after the Centre rescheduled the population enumeration exercise in the state in view of the upcoming Assembly elections.
The training programme was inaugurated by Sheetal Verma, Director and Chief Principal Census Officer, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday.
Population enumeration for the second phase of Census-2027 in Uttar Pradesh will be conducted from December 1, 2026 to January 4, 2027, while the reference date and time for the exercise will be January 5, 2027, at 0000 hours.
Before the enumeration, residents will have the option of completing self-enumeration from November 16 to 30, 2026 and obtaining a Self-Enumeration ID. From December 1, they can provide the ID to the enumerator for their data to be recorded in the concerned Enumeration Block.
The revisional round will be conducted from January 5 to 9, 2027.
Verma said the training of Master Trainers was particularly important given the scale and diversity of Uttar Pradesh.
“The trained Master Trainers will further provide the necessary training to Field Trainers and officials engaged in Census work at the district and local levels and will supervise the training of Supervisors and Enumerators,” she said.
The training is being organised in eight batches in two slots. Four batches will undergo training from September 16 to 19, while the remaining four batches will be trained from September 23 to 26.
A total of 305 Master Trainers will train around 7,500 Field Trainers at the district level. The Field Trainers will subsequently train about 5.63 lakh Enumerators and Supervisors at the tehsil and urban local body levels.
Verma said the training would cover various aspects of the second phase of Census-2027, including the questionnaire, population enumeration methodology, digital enumeration processes, coverage, quality control and other important procedures.
The objective is to ensure that Master Trainers are equipped to provide clear and practical guidance to personnel involved in the Census exercise in their respective areas, she said.
Uttar Pradesh has 4,78,783 Enumeration Blocks, while the estimated number of Enumerators and Supervisors, including a 10 per cent reserve, is 5.63 lakh.
Verma said the vast geographical spread and diverse administrative conditions of Uttar Pradesh would require special attention to ensure complete coverage.
"The basic objective of the Census work is to ensure that no household and no person is left out and that no person is enumerated more
than once," she said.
She said that Master Trainers will play an important role in the entire Census process and the quality of their training will have a direct impact on the quality of fieldwork.
" Census-2027 is not merely an exercise of collecting data, but an important national responsibility to create a reliable foundation for planning the future of the country and the state. Successful completion of this responsibility in Uttar Pradesh requires special emphasis on training and public cooperation," Verma further said.
