Violent clash between two communities in Nahan, SHO and police personnel injured in stone pelting

Nahan, Oct 23 (UNI) Several police personnel were injured in stone pelting in a clash between two communities at Valmiki Chowk in Nahan, headquarters of Sirmaur district in Himachal Pradesh on Friday.
Tension escalated after the Valmiki memorial was damaged and the dispute over this between the two communities took a violent turn with stone pelting from both sides, police said. The injured included Sadar Police Station in-charge Kulbir Singh and a police constable. Several vehicles were damaged during the violence.
According to reports, the dispute began over the repair of a broken welcome gate at Valmiki Chowk. An argument between the two sides escalated, and the violence and vandalism was not immediately brought under control. Police forces, including female police officers, were present at the scene, but they also faced stone-pelting.
This incident has raised serious questions about the police system and the administration's preparedness. The dispute began around 12 noon and the tense situation persisted until 3:45 pm. Delay in the arrival of additional police forces on time when the situation began to deteriorate while the sixth battalion of the IRB was near Sirmaur district has raised questions. However, an official explanation from the administration is yet to be released.
Police forces, including DSP Shakti Singh and Sadar Police Station in-charge Kulbir Singh, were at the scene to control the situation. The station in-charge reportedly suffered a head injury.
The violent clash also disrupted traffic on National Highway 907A, which passes through Nahan, was severely disrupted from around 12 noon to 3 pm. Long queues of vehicles formed on the roads leading to Shimla and Chandigarh, causing inconvenience to travelers.
