Woman with hearing and speech disabilities drugged, raped on job pretext in Gurugram

Gurugram, Oct 8 (UNI) A 29-year-old man was arrested in Gurugram on Thursday on the charge of drugging and raping a woman with hearing and speech disabilities after luring her from Lucknow with a promise of employment, police said.
According to police, the accused, identified as Adnan Khan, hailing from Bareilly district in Uttar Pradesh, allegedly mixed an intoxicant into a cold drink before sexually assaulting the woman at his accommodation in Gurugram on February 14, 2026. Subsequently, he threatened to kill the woman if she disclosed the incident to anyone, police added.
Initial investigation evealed that both the complainant and the accused have hearing and speech disabilities. They initially came into contact through Instagram and subsequently met at an event for people with similar disabilities in Lucknow.
Khan, working at a private hotel in Gurugram since 2023, allegedly persuaded the woman to travel to the city by promising to arrange employment for her.
The woman initially lodged a Zero FIR at Hazratganj police station in Lucknow. The complaint and related documents were transferred to Gurugram's Sector 17/18 police station on September 24, following which her statement was recorded and a case registered under the relevant provisions of law.
Acting on the complaint, Khan, who had studied up to class 12, was arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway, police said.
