DRI seized Rs 3 crore from car in Hapur

Hapur, Oct 18 (UNI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has recovered cash worth Rs 3 crore from a car near the Chhijarsi toll in Pilkhuwa in Hapur district on Sunday.
The car was travelling from Shahjahanpur to Delhi.
Acting on a tip-off, the DRI stopped the car on Saturday and searched it. Rs 3.5 million was found in a bag, while Rs 2.65 crore was recovered from hidden compartments in the car doors.
According to the DRI, the occupants of the car were unable to produce any documents related to the seized cash. They were also unable to provide information about the source of the cash. The entire matter has been reported to the Income Tax Department, which will take further action.
The discovery of such a large sum of money in a car coming from Shahjahanpur is considered significant in view of the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
However, the connection of the seized cash to the elections has not yet been confirmed.
Following the DRI's action, the Income Tax Department will now investigate the source of the cash and the facts surrounding it.
