Mother alleges minor girl raped by father in Punjab

Hoshiarpur, June 6 (UNI) An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her father in a village falling
under Mukerian police station limits, police said on Friday.
According to Sub-Inspector (SI) Joginder Singh, SHO of Mukerian police station, the matter came to light after the girl's mother lodged a complaint. She stated that she was married to a 40-year-old man in 2011, and the couple had two children, a son and a daughter.
She alleged that her husband used to frequently quarrel with her and their children, and that she was currently living at her maternal home. On March 22 this year, Surjit Singh took their daughter to his village. Later, she spoke to the girl through a phone call facilitated by a cousin of her father-in-law.
During the conversation, the victim girl revealed that her father regularly beat her and sexually assaulted
her whenever the grandparents were not present at home.
Sub-inspector Joginder Singh said Surjit Singh had been arrested under POCSO Act. Investigations are underway.
