856 caught driving drunk in Gurugram in 18 days, police warn of risk to public safety

Panchkula, Sep 20 (UNI) As many as 856 motorists were caught driving under the influence of alcohol in Gurugram in just 18 days, highlighting the continuing threat posed by drunk driving to commuters and other road users, a Haryana Police spokesperson said on Sunday.
Gurugram Traffic Police detected the violations during a special drive conducted from September 1 to 18, during which 19 vehicles were also impounded.
Police said drunk driving puts not only the offender but also pedestrians, cyclists and other motorists at risk. Multiple traffic teams were deployed at checkpoints across the city, including during night hours, to identify drivers who had consumed alcohol.
