Police foil alleged extortion plot, three held with China-made pistols in Gurugram

Gurugram, Oct 3 (UNI) Police have arrested three men in Gurugram for allegedly possessing illegal firearms and conducting reconnaissance for an extortion attempt at the direction of their associates, police said on Saturday.
The police official said preliminary investigation indicated that the accused were also allegedly planning to carry out an incident in Delhi with the intention of creating fear. The precise nature of the alleged plan was not disclosed.
The accused have been identified as Abhay alias Maulad (20) of Khera Jhajhrola village in Gurugram, Jatin alias Jony (29) of Sonipat, and Sagar, also a resident of Khera Jhajhrola.
A Crime Branch Farrukhnagar team apprehended Abhay near the Garhi flyover on New Pataudi-Gurugram Road, Jatin from Farrukhnagar and Sagar from KPM, Farrukhnagar, the Haryana Police spokesman said.
Police recovered two foreign-made PX pistols, stated to be China-made, and five live cartridges from the accused. A case has been registered at Sector 10 police station in Gurugram under relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
During the operation, Sagar allegedly jumped from a flyover while trying to evade the police and suffered a fracture in his leg. He was admitted to hospital for treatment and will be formally arrested in the case after his discharge, police said.
According to the police, preliminary questioning revealed that Jatin allegedly supplied the illegal weapons to Abhay after obtaining them from other associates. Investigators are probing the source and supply chain of the firearms.
Police further alleged that the accused remained in contact with other associates and were conducting reconnaissance for alleged extortion at their direction. The precise nature of the incident allegedly being planned in Delhi was not disclosed.
A check of the accused's criminal record showed that Jatin had previously been booked in a case under the Excise Act in Delhi, the official said.
Gurugram Police said the network of the accused, the source of the illegal firearms and the role of other people allegedly in contact with them were being investigated.UNI KK AAB
