Six held with illegal arms in Nuh over alleged Jamia revenge plot

Panchkula, Oct 1 (UNI) Haryana Police have arrested six youths with illegal weapons in Nuh for allegedly planning to travel to Delhi to avenge a clash at Jamia University, while a separate case has been registered after a video purportedly showing a snake being beaten to death surfaced on social media, a police spokesperson said here on Thursday.
The police spokesperson said the CIA Nuh team arrested the six from the Salamba village area following information that they had assembled there with weapons and sticks and were allegedly preparing to leave for Delhi.
Police said the group has gathered to avenge an alleged assault on one of the accused, Bilal, at Jamia University in Delhi.
The arrested men were identified as Subedin and Firoz, residents of Salahedi village; Bilal and Sahil, residents of Nuh town; and Naseem and Parvez, residents of Saunkh village.
“A country-made pistol, a country-made gun and three bamboo sticks were recovered from their possession,” the spokesperson said.
He said a case under the Arms Act has been registered at Nuh Sadar police station and further investigation is underway.
In a separate case, Haryana Police registered an FIR against unidentified persons after the Wildlife Department took cognisance of a social media video allegedly showing a snake being killed at Shah Chokha village in the Pingwan police station area.
The spokesperson said Wildlife Inspector Rakesh Kumar of Faridabad received the video through social media on September 29. The footage purportedly showed a person beating a snake with a stick while another stood nearby holding an axe.
The video was reportedly recorded near a government school in Khori Shah Chokha village, police said.
Following a complaint from the Wildlife Inspector, Pingwan police registered a case against unidentified persons under the Wildlife (Protection) Act. Efforts were underway to identify the people seen in the viral video, the spokesperson said.
Nuh Superintendent of Police Dr Arpit Jain appealed to people to protect wildlife.
“We should all love wildlife. They too have a right to live,” Jain said, adding that snakes play an important role in maintaining ecological balance.
Police said investigations in both cases were continuing. UNI KK NST AAB
