Panchkula seizes 200 vehicles, recovers Rs 1.12 crore in illegal mining crackdown; 139 FIRs registered

Panchkula, Nov 3 (UNI) Authorities in Haryana's Panchkula district seized 200 vehicles, recovered fines exceeding Rs 1.12 crore and registered 139 FIRs in connection with illegal mining and mineral transportation during the seven months ending October 2026, officials said on Tuesday.
The figures were disclosed at a district-level task force meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Satpal Sharma, who ordered intensified enforcement, round-the-clock checkpoints and joint operations by the Mining Department, police and Enforcement Bureau to curb illegal mining.
Of the 139 FIRs registered between April and October, 24 related to illegal mining at mining sites and 115 to unauthorised transportation of minerals, District Mining Officer Anil Kumar told the meeting.
He said fines amounting to Rs 1,12,38,248 had been recovered during the period.
In a separate category of enforcement, 161 vehicles operating without valid inter-state transit passes were seized, and fines totalling Rs 37,54,320 were recovered, he said.
Sharma directed officials to register FIRs against those involved in illegal mining and seize vehicles used for unlawful operations.
"Illegal mining will not be tolerated under any circumstances," Sharma said, warning that violations would invite strict legal action.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the Mining Department and police to identify vulnerable locations and increase the number of checkpoints, with personnel deployed round the clock on a rotational basis.
He also ordered intensified night patrolling in Paploha and Charniyan villages of Kalka subdivision, identified for special enforcement attention.
Expanding the existing village-level monitoring system, the administration will now assign responsibility for identifying and reporting illegal mining in areas under the Panchkula Municipal Corporation and Kalka Municipal Council.
Village sarpanches have already been directed to immediately report suspected illegal mining in their respective areas to enable prompt enforcement action.
Sharma said the same reporting mechanism would be extended to urban local bodies, with designated officials responsible for monitoring activities within their jurisdictions.
The meeting was informed that seven mining blocks are currently allocated in the district — Karanpur, Kot, Shyamtu-1, Shyamtu-2, Naggal, Mandlay-1 and Barauna Khurd.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the Mining Department to ensure compliance with all prescribed conditions in these blocks and initiate action against operators found violating the rules.
He also called for closer coordination among enforcement agencies to prevent illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, particularly during nighttime operations.
Senior officials from the district administration, police, transport, irrigation and other departments attended the meeting. UNI KK CDS
