Nurpur Police Seize Drug Trafficker’s Property Worth Rs 48.30 Lakh, Seal House

Dharamshala, Nov 4 (UNI) In a significant breakthrough under its anti-Chitta campaign, Nurpur Police have taken possession of a residential property worth Rs 48.30 lakh, allegedly acquired through drug trafficking, and sealed the house under the PIT-NDPS Act.
Police described it as the first such action in Himachal Pradesh in which the government has obtained actual vacant possession of a property forfeited under the PIT-NDPS Act.
The action was carried out against Shamsher Singh, son of Gurdial Singh, a resident of Ward No. 9, Damtal, in Indora tehsil of Kangra district.
According to a press release issued by the Nurpur Police on Wednesday, the Competent Authority and Administrator, SAFEM (FOP) Act, 1976 and NDPS Act, 1985, New Delhi, ordered the forfeiture of assets worth Rs 48,30,997 under Sections 68-I(1) and 68-I(3) of the NDPS Act.
The forfeited assets include a two-storey residential house, comprising the ground floor, first floor and basement, located at Chhanni village in Indora tehsil, valued at Rs 45,90,557. Cash amounting to Rs 2,40,440, allegedly generated through the illegal drug trade, was also forfeited.
In compliance with an order dated October 22 issued under Section 68-U of the NDPS Act, the Damtal Police Station was authorised to take physical possession of the seized property.
On Wednesday, police inspected the premises in the presence of independent witnesses and verified the property against the details mentioned in the official order. After recording the condition of the building, it was formally taken over on behalf of the government through a written handover document.
The house was subsequently locked and sealed with the police station seal. A notice board was also installed at the main entrance declaring the property as forfeited to the Government of India and prohibiting unauthorised entry.
The entire process was completed peacefully, without the use of force or any resistance, in the presence of independent witnesses, police said.
Nurpur Police said the anti-chitta campaign was not limited to the recovery of narcotics and arrest of drug traffickers but also focused on identifying, investigating and confiscating properties allegedly acquired through the illegal drug trade.
The latest action marks an important step towards dismantling the financial networks of drug traffickers by targeting their illegally acquired assets, the police added. UNI AR CDS
