Haryana Minister Shruti Choudhry directs officials to ensure adequate irrigation for Rabi sowing

Chandigarh, Nov 4 (UNI) Haryana Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Choudhry has directed officials to ensure adequate irrigation facilities across the state during the ongoing Rabi sowing season, asserting that every farmer will receive their rightful share of water despite limited availability.
Chairing a review meeting on water supply in Chandigarh on Wednesday, the Minister called for continuous monitoring of canal water distribution and a review of existing allocation mechanisms to ensure that farmers do not face any difficulty during the crucial sowing period.
Additional Chief Secretary, Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Anurag Agarwal, was also present at the meeting.
Shruti Choudhry directed officials to examine historical records related to water allocation and review the prescribed norms periodically, keeping in view water availability, irrigated area and farmers' requirements.
Expressing concern over canal water theft, she stressed the need to launch public awareness initiatives and encourage community participation to prevent the misuse of water and ensure equitable distribution.
The Minister also directed officials to expedite pending forest-related clearances so that development and irrigation projects are not delayed unnecessarily. She called for better coordination with the concerned departments for the timely resolution of pending cases.
Reviewing flood control arrangements, land demarcation and pump availability, Choudhry emphasised the need to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply for the smooth functioning of irrigation projects and pumping systems.
Taking up issues concerning the Yamuna Water Services (YWS) Circle, she asked officials to assess the actual requirement of pumps and speed up their procurement, repair and availability to ensure uninterrupted irrigation facilities for farmers.
